Biography

Paolo Borsa is Full Professor of Italian Literature in the Department of Italian at the University of Fribourg. He is Chair of the Department of Italian and Chair of the Library Committee for Medieval and Modern Languages and Literatures (BLL). From 2023 to 2025, he was Director of the Medieval Institute of Fribourg.

After completing his PhD in 2004, he worked as a researcher and lecturer at the University of Milan (2010–2019). He also taught at the Polytechnic University (2005–2015) and in the Advanced Master's Programme in Publishing (2013–2019) in Milan. He was Visiting Professor at the University of Helsinki (2015), the University of Cambridge (2017), and the Romanisches Seminar of the University of Zurich (A.Y. 2017-2018). He collaborates with the Centre for Medieval Literature in York and Odense, and co-edits the journals Interfaces: A Journal of Medieval European LiteraturesRassegna europea di letteratura italiana and Tenzone.

Since 2024, he has served as Expert for Italian at the Cantonal School of Commerce in Bellinzona.

His primary research interests concern early Italian literature and Dante, as well as Italian literature of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

From 2020 to 2024, he led the project Ugo Foscolo, Epistolario 1825–1827, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, and he is currently leading the project Poesie e scrittori di poesie: Bologna, 1265-1327, also funded by the SNSF.

All his publications are available in open access : 2002-2018 | 2019-present.
