Monday 22 Jun 2026 Submitting Grants with Minimal Effort
Submitting grant proposals can feel time-consuming and resource-intensive, but it does not have to be. With the right workflows, researchers can significantly reduce the effort required to prepare a proposal without compromising their chances of success. This talk presents approaches to streamlining the grant submission process. We will discuss how to plan submissions strategically and integrate proposal writing efficiently into ongoing research activities. The session will provide concrete tips to help participants submit proposals more regularly without multiplying their workload. Target audience: all Unifr researchers, from PhD students and postdocs to professors. This event will be held in a hybrid format. The presentation will last ca. 20 minutes, followed by ca. 10 minutes of Q&A. We will then conclude with 30 minutes of informal discussion, exchange and cookies. During this time, members of the SPR team will be present to answer your questions. Please note that the event will be recorded. Online participants will be able to join the presentation and Q&A session only. This event will be held in English. Q&A in French and German is welcome.Thursday 25 Jun 2026 Introduction to Pivot-RP
This webinar will introduce you to Pivot-RP, an advanced search tool for new research funding opportunities. A Pivot-RP specialist will introduce the tool's functions in English (ca. 30-45 min.), and then we will have a Q&A session where you will be able to ask questions in English, German or French. Pivot-RP offers you access to an extremely extensive, editorially curated database of national and international funding opportunities. You can use it to tailor searches for funding to your specific needs depending on your discipline and career stage, to set up funding alerts, to search for potential collaborators for new projects and much more. The tool offers something for every discipline and is able to find funding opportunities for niche subjects. ! we recommend that you create an account and claim your profile before the webinar (follow this link to learn how https://www.unifr.ch/research/en/funding/pivot/connection.html).Tuesday 01 Sep 2026 Introduction to Pivot-RP

Traditional academic CVs emphasize quantitative indicators such as publication counts, journal impact factors, institutional rankings and markers of prestige. However, funders and research institutions are increasingly stepping away from such practices. Narrative CVs have emerged as key instruments in this shift, recognizing, valuing and rewarding the diversity of profiles and careers in research by showcasing research skills, achievements and contributions to science. This event introduces the concept of narrative CVs in the context of grant applications. We will outline the differences between a traditional academic CV and a narrative CV and discuss why an increasing number of funders are adopting this approach. Participants will receive practical guidance on how to write a strong narrative CV. The session will conclude with a presentation of the SNSF narrative CV and its specific requirements. Target audience: all Unifr researchers, from PhD students, postdocs to professors. This event will be held in a hybrid format. The presentation will last ca. 20 minutes, followed by ca. 10 minutes of Q&A. We will then conclude with 30 minutes of informal discussion, exchange and cookies. Monday 09 Nov 2026 Writing a Non-Academic CV: How to ‘Translate’ Your Skills
Academic CVs often follow conventions that prioritise comprehensive lists of research activities, publications and teaching experience. Outside academia, however, recruiters and employers expect a different approach—one that highlights concrete skills, achievements and the practical relevance of past work. This session introduces the key differences between an academic CV and a CV used for roles beyond the academic research environment. We will examine why tailoring a CV to the expectations of broader professional settings is essential and how structure and content need to evolve. Participants will receive practical guidance on how to reframe research experience into widely applicable competencies. Target audience: PhD candidates and postdocs. This event will be held in a hybrid format. The presentation will last ca. 20 minutes, followed by ca. 10 minutes of Q&A. We will then conclude with 30 minutes of informal discussion, exchange and cookies. During this time, members of the SPR team will be present to answer your questions.
