Description Physical Chemistry of Nanomaterials. This lecture is devoted to learning and understanding the most important physico-chemical properties of nanomaterials. The role played by surface will be thoroughly covered. A particular focus will be dedicated to the properties of suspension of nanoparticles, on their colloidal stability and on how these systems can be characterized. An introduction to the methods used to characterized nanomaterials, especially scattering techniques and microscopy as tools to determine their size, shape etc. will be provided. Finally, the most important modeling techniques used to predict the properties of nanomaterials will be covered.
Training objectives After having followed this lecture, you should be able to:
    - Understand what distinguishes nanomaterials from bulk materials.
    - know the methods used to characterized nanomaterials
    - understand the role played by surface
    - be familiar with the concepts of stability of nanoparticulate dispersions
    - be familiar with the modeling aspects of nanomaterials
