Biography

Carmen Zurbriggen has been a Full Professor in Special Education at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland) since August 2022. Her research mainly focuses on inclusive education, social participation, well-being and emotional development of children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities. She also has a strong interest in the development and testing of empirical survey instruments with an emphasis on inclusion and socio-emotional aspects.

From 2017 to 2020, Carmen Zurbriggen was a professor in Educational Science with a focus on difficult learning and development conditions at Bielefeld University (Germany). She then joined the University of Luxembourg, where she held an Associate Professorship in Inclusive Education and Learning Difficulties for two years.

Carmen Zurbriggen received her PhD from the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Fribourg in 2015. She worked as a research fellow at the University of Teacher Education in Special Needs in Zurich (2009–2012) and at the Department of Special Education at the University of Fribourg (2013–2017). Prior to her academic career, she worked as a teacher and special needs teacher and was involved in training and further education, as well as in the supervision of teachers.
