Biography

Michael Boyden is a professor of American literature at the University of Fribourg, a position he has held since 2025. Prior to his appointment at Fribourg, he was an associate professor of American literature at Uppsala University and chair professor of English and American literature and culture at Radboud University Nijmegen. Boyden obtained his PhD in 2006 from the University of Leuven with a dissertation offering a sociology of American literary history. He has been a Fulbright fellow at Harvard and a visiting scholar at Dartmouth College and Brigham Young University. While trained in American Studies and literary theory, Boyden’s research interests are thematically focused: he has worked on topics ranging from literary translingualism, to migration literatures, to revolutionary cultures, and, in recent years, the environmental and health humanities.
