Biography

I serve as a postdoctoral lecturer and researcher at the department. My teaching includes lecturers on the history of social work and anti-oppressive social work theory. Due to my research expertise in refugee related social work and the utilization of media and technology in human services, I highlight these contexts in my lectures. Further, I teach qualitative research methods in social sciences; here I focus on traditional reserach methods and newer approaches to the research on media.

My research focuses on processes of social change at the level of media discourses and institutions. With my sociological and philosophical background, I pursue an integrated approach that constructively links theoretical and empirical approaches. Using qualitative methods - in particular sociological-political discourse analyses - I examine the media construction of change processes and the transformation of values and norms. I embed this empirical work in theoretical concepts of media theory and political sociology, with integrating particular structuration theory, post-structuralism and psychoanalysis.

In terms of content, I am currently working on social change in questions of digitality and artificial intelligence, asylum policy and the changing role of media, technology and normativity in society as such. Another field of research is the (power-) critical role of social work in times of social crisis.
