Biography
Julia Straub joined the Department of English as Full Professor of Modern English Literature in August 2020, coming from the University of Bern, and having previously also taught at the Universities of Göttingen, York (UK), Basel, Zürich and Lausanne. Professor Straub's research and teaching cover the field of English Literature from around 1800 to the present day, with special interest in the connections between literature and media history, intermediality, cultural memory studies, canon formation and and contemporary literature. Her current research focuses on motherhood in contemporary Anglophone literature. From 2021-2025, she was the director of the Institute of Comparative Literature; in February 2026 she started her term in office as Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Humanities.
