Biography

Tanja Itgenshorst is an ancient historian with expertise in the Roman Republic and the Early Empire as well as in Archaic and Classical Greece. After her PhD at the University of Cologne she has been lecturer at the University of Bielefeld where she also obtained her habilitation and Venia Legendi. As an academic teacher she also has been active in Belgium (KU Leuven) and France (Université Paris 1 and Paris 7) as an invited lecturer. In 2011-12 she was visiting professor at the Humboldt University (Berlin), in 2012 she was appointed full professor of Roman history at the University of Reims (France), in 2016 she was appointed associated professor, in 2018 full professor at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland). She is, among other, member of the scientific board of «Studien zur Alten Geschichte» (V&R/Brill), member of the scientific committee of « Ktèma » and of the « Historische Zeitschrift » and secretary of the "Museum Helveticum" (responsible for Ancient History).
