    Description

This course familiarizes students with a broad spectrum of perspectives in AI Ethics. Artificial Intelligence – as a technology, as a concept, and as a catch-all phrase – has already been affecting innumerable aspects of social life, some in possibly transformational ways. The course covers a variety of themes such as the political economy of AI, issues related to the governance of AI, effects on labour, and the AI alignment problem. Taught by two lecturers with backgrounds in critical AI studies and ethics, respectively, the course provides both a broad overview of salient issues and deep dives into specific topics and approaches.

After three introductory classes, the course will consist of weekly discussion-oriented sessions based on readings. Each student will choose one theme related to the dynamic relationship between AI and society and present on this theme at the end of the term. Throughout the term they will relate their chosen theme to the weekly readings.
