In the field of the environment, ethical studies generally focus on the justification of environmental measures, but rarely on the ethical problems that arise during their implementation.  This lecture presents the method of principlism and analyzes the ethical implications of various environmental challenges. These change each semester the course is taught. This course is in English. 

Fall Semester 2022: 
In fall 2022 this lecture focuses on an aspect of our lives that is not only fundamental for our survival but also has tremendous impacts on the environment and the climate: the production of healthy and nutritious food. The first part of this lecture is concerned with the various entitlements of human and non-human entities in our food chains. The second part discusses the ethical implications of the reciprocal influence between agriculture and climate change. The third part engages challenges of unequal access to technology for climate mitigation and adaptation in food production.

The students know the basics for recognizing ethical problems in relation to environmental issues. They get to know the method of "principlism" and can use it in ethical conflict situations.

Participation only possible after completion of the four basic environmental science courses including exams (SSE.00101, SSE.00102, SSE.00103, SSE.00104).

This course unit cannot be taken in the same semester as SSE.00230.
