    Description

    1. Introduction to SR : basic principles, booster synchrotron, storage ring, bending magnet, wiggler, undulator, SR characteristics, beam line, performances of existing facilities, X-ray Free Electron Laser (XFEL).
    2. X-Ray optics: mirrors, single crystal monochromators, multilayer momochromators, x-ray focusing devices.
    3. Examples of applications: x-ray imaging, inelastic x-ray scattering, x-ray absorption spectroscopy, time-resolved studies.

Training objectives On successful completion of the course, the student will
    • be familiar with the underlying physics of synchrotron radiation and its main properties
    • be acquainted with the working principles of key optical x-ray devices for tailoring the SR beam
