In addition to an introductory event (May/June) and two seminar afternoons in Fribourg (October/early November), the bilingual (german/french) seminar includes a three-day trip to Brussels (November), where several institutions and bodies, including those of the European Union, are visited (e.g. European Commission, European Parliament, Council of the EU, European Council, Swiss Mission, etc.). The seminar will cover various topics from the field of EU Law (including the bilateral relations between Switzerland and the EU).

Registration is required for participation in the seminar (end of April).

As part of the seminar, a written paper on one of the seminar topics will be produced (depending on the crediting modality). Through the conducted research and by writing the paper, the ability to work independently on a complex topic and the ability to express oneself in writing should be promoted. In addition, all students give a presentation on their seminar topic in order to improve their presentation skills.

Students are required to prepare and hold individually a presentation of 15 minutes which will be followed by a group discussion (2 ECTS as special credits). Furthermore, students may compose a (pro-)seminar paper on the same topic (recommended) (additional 3 ECTS). In this case, the 5 ECTS can either be credited as master seminar (5 ECTS), as proseminar paper (3 ECTS) + special credits (2 ECTS) or as special credits (5 ECTS).

The seminar is assessed on the basis of the written paper submitted and the presentation given.
