    Description

The starting point for this seminar is the question of assigning responsibility to agents in environmental practice and governance. The focus lies on the principle of "Common But Differentiated Responsibilities" (CBDR) and the tension between individual and collective responsibility in the context of sustainability. The specific topic of the seminar changes each time it is taught.

    SS23
In her seminal book "Responsibility for Justice" Iris Marion Young develops the social connection model to better understand our duties to address structural injustice. In this seminar we closely examine her book and discuss its relevance for environmental issues by reading environmental ethics and political theory literature. Please acquire the book beforehand. All other literature will be provided.

    Training objectives

By reading and discussing relevant publications students learn to critically reflect and analyse environmental ethics arguments in the context of responsibility in sustainability challenges. The students know different levels of responsibility in the context of environmental practice and can distinguish between them.
