    Description

    In this course, we will look at the English language from four different perspectives. We will investigate its phonological structure. We will delve into the structure of its words (morphology), of its sentences (syntax), and study the construction of meaning (semantics). One of our primary concerns will be to get to understand how we can develop the appropriate toolbox to study and describe the English language from a scientific viewpoint.

    A bibliography and a list of assigned readings will be made available in the first week of the semester.  Fromkin et al. Introduction to Language or Yule’s The Study of Language introductory textbooks would constitute a good entry point to the topic.
