Mit fremder Stimme: Postkolonialität in Literatur und Philosophie / In Whose Name? Postcoloniality in Philosophy and Literature / La voix de l’autre : le postcolonial entre littérature et philosophie

Im Medium der Literatur werden Erfahrungen nachvollziehbar, die von den eigenen teils weit entfernt sind und die im eigenen Sinnhorizont bislang nie auftauchten. Zugleich wirft Literatur die Frage auf, wie sich bestimmte Erfahrungen überhaupt versprachlichen bzw. übersetzen lassen. Ausgehend von post- und dekolonialer Darstellungskritik verschränkt das interdisziplinäre Seminar philosophische und literaturwissenschaftliche Zugänge. Zentrale Konzepte der post-und dekolonialen Theoriebildung (z.B. Mimikry, Hybridität, Subalternität) werden in Verbindung mit englischsprachigen literarischen Texten verschiedener Gattungen diskutiert.

Literature gives voice to experiences sometimes far removed from one’s own, raising the reader’s awareness to hitherto invisible dimensions of existence. At the same time, literature asks the question of how individual experiences can be articulated or translated at all. Based on post- and decolonial critique of representation, this interdisciplinary seminar interlocks philosophical and literary approaches. Concepts that are central to post-colonial and de-colonial theory, such as mimicry, hybridity or the subaltern, will be applied to a discussion of anglophone literary texts belonging to a variety of genres.

La littérature donne corps à des vécus qui nous entraînent parfois loin de tout ce qui est familier, sensibilisant le lecteur à des points de vue jusque-là insoupçonnés. Mais en retour, toute littérature soulève la question de savoir comment la singularité d’une expérience peut s’articuler ou être accueillie dans le langage de l’autre. En partant de la critique post- et décoloniale de la représentation, ce séminaire interdisciplinaire entrelace les approches philosophiques et littéraires. Les concepts centraux de la théorie post-coloniale et décoloniale, tels que le mimétisme, l’hybridité ou la subalternité, seront appliqués à une discussion d’œuvres littéraires de langue anglaise de provenance et de genres variés.
