    Description

This course will introduce students to the general characteristics of management and corporate governance in emerging markets and the strategic challenges such markets pose for entering multinationals. Drawing primarily from institutional theory and the institutionalist approach to firm strategy, the course will describe the institutional and cultural features of emerging markets. The course will analyse how firms from emerging markets have evolved both in terms of ownership structure and corporate governance and in terms of strategic behaviour. In the second half of the course, focus will be on entering (developed country) MNCs and the challenges these firms face when entering emerging markets. Among the topics covered in the second half will be political risk, entry modes and location choice.

    Training objectives

To provide students with knowledge of key features of emerging market firms and the main strategic options available to entering MNCs, and to provide students with knowledge of key characteristics of emerging markets from a management perspective.
