    Description

    Comment a été comprise la prostitution au Moyen Âge ? Comme un travail qui, comme tout travail, mérite salaire ? Les prostituées forment-elles une corporation qui, en tant que telle, à Paris peut offrir un vitrail à la cathédrale de Notre-Dame ? Les théologiens ont été consultés et ont répondu par l’affirmative.

    Entre bordel, étuves, petits bordelages privés, la prostitution est un phénomène pluriel, balancé entre répression, tolérance et intégration, dont la perception a évolué tout au long du Moyen Âge. Et qu’en est-il de la prostitution masculine ?

    Ce séminaire s’appuie en particulier sur les travaux de Jacques Rossiaud, et s’intéresse également aux fondements théologiques de la prostitution, dans lesquels la figure de Marie-Madeleine, prostituée puis sainte, joue un rôle emblématique.
    Training objectives

    Le but de ce séminaire est de se familiariser avec les différentes conceptions de la prostitution au Moyen Âge et de les analyser de manière critique, en particulier en étudiant les textes qui en parlent, dont ceux des théologiens médiévaux.
