    Description

Based on cases and examples, this course illustrates the real world application of the main IFRS seen in earlier studies, for example leasing, goodwill, brands, research & development, tangible assets, revaluation, financial assets, provisions, non-financial performance  etc.

    Training objectives

Some accounting standards seem to be 'simple' conceptually - though their application in the real world of companies often appears to be much more complexe. Therefore, this course offers the opportunity to discover and experience at least a part of the complexity of the application of these accounting standards as they appear to preparers and auditors.

A general feeling, understanding and comprehension for the difficulty of applying existing and new standards to a company's situation should be acquired by students at the end of this course.

The course aims to go beyond the grammar of accounting language and to emphasise a discovery and understanding of its poetry aspects, or at least some of them. Each and every value on the assets' side of a balance sheet includes the accountant's perception of what will happen in the future, and not (only) of the past. Students shall be prepared to be aware of this and to include this 'uncertainty issue' in their (not only) professional life.

    Condition of access

Students starting this course should already have a general knowledge of Financial Accounting and of the Financial Accounting system, ideally by having validated introducing courses in that matter or even the core course in Financial Accounting.
