    Description

    One of the main objectives of communication is to convince an interlocutor to adopt or agree with a message. This course focuses on the persuasive role of communication. It first presents the main theories that explain the mechanisms of persuasion and examines the effects of source characteristics, recipient attributes, and message types on individual attitudes. The course then explores the complex relationship between attitudes and behavior, notably by addressing the role of (digital) mobilization.

    Students will carry out a practical project on persuasive communication. This project aims to con-nect the theoretical concepts taught in class, the knowledge acquired in other courses, and a practical implementation that fosters students’ creativity while teaching them to meet the expecta-tions and quality requirements of a corporate or public client.

    This course is intended both for students who wish to deepen their understanding of persuasion mechanisms and apply them in concrete contexts and for those interested in the effects of per-suasive messages on recipients.

    Training objectives

    At the end of this course, students should be able to:

    • identify the main theoretical approaches that address the persuasive role of communication;
    • critically discuss these approaches and the assigned readings;
    • apply the principles of persuasion and mobilization to a practical case.
