Description Advanced Characterization and Separation methods
Training objectives The course on advanced characterization and separation techniques will include the main techniques relevant for characterization and separation of materials and components. The first part of the course discusses the fundamental instrumental separation techniques most commonly used, such as GC and GC/MS, LC and LC/MS, ion chromatography, size-exclusion chromatography and capillary electrophoresis. Second part focuses on the characterization of porous materials by using BET surface area analysis. In the third part, the materials characterization techniques including X-Ray Diffraction, Electron Microscopy (TEM and SEM), Dynamic Light Scattering will be discussed. Each part will start with an introductory lecture giving the basic understanding of the technique and the physical principles it is based on, as well as advantages and limitations.
Comments Lecture notes will be provided through Moodle and also in-class spectral analysis will be performed during the semester
