    Description

    The course is starting on Monday 19 September 2022.

    The course is an introduction to the very broad domain of “risk”. After an introductive session, several speakers from different horizons will talk about specific theoretical or practical approach(es) of the risk management. Social aspects of risk, identification of natural and industrial hazards, tools for risk assessment, strategies of damage mitigation or financial modeling are some of the themes evoked during the course.

    Training objectives During the course, the student will have to deal with information from different sources, perspectives, socio-economical contexts, scales and problems to be solved. This will be the task of the student to synthesize the information in a coherent way.

    On successful completion of the course the student should be :
    • more familiar with concepts, perspectives and methodologies of risk management related to natural, technological or industrial hazards;
    • able to apply an adapted methodology when analyzing a risk problematic;
    • aware about the diversity of understanding risk;
    • able to assess forthcoming challenges in selected aspects of risk management depending on the cultural, political and socio-economical context;
    • able to act as a geographer when coping with a risk problematic.
