Master in Sport Sciences and Motor Control "Teaching" option

This Master programme, offered jointly by the University of Fribourg and the Swiss Federal Institute of Sport Magglingen (SFISM), enables students to deepen their knowledge of movement and sports science and put it into practice in the areas of physical and sporting activity. The focus is on specific topics that are primarily aimed at future secondary school PE teachers. Students are introduced to scientific work, learn to analyse research results and use them for physical education.

  • Training objectives

    With the successful completion of the MSc in Sports Science Option Teaching, students have

    • deepend their knowledge of specific topics in the various fields of sports science (such as science of exercise and physical education, sports psychology and sports education)

    and are able to,

    • critically understand the results of scientific research and make use of them, especially with regard to teaching;

    • assess the problems related to teaching in an accurate and socially and morally responsible way;

    • apply their scientific knowledge to the planning, realisation and evaluation of teaching activities;

    • put interdisciplinary skills into practice, such as communication or group leadership, necessary competences for future teachers in physical education.

  • Structure

    The degree programme in MSc in Sports Science Option Teaching is divided into three parts:

    • Consolidation: in lectures, seminars and workshops or thematic courses, students deepen the knowledge acquired at Bachelor level.

    • Specialisation: new, specific topics of the respective MSc option are added.

    • Thesis: research project of limited scope, which rounds off the Master programme.
