Switzerland is back in EU research programmes

The end of this year has been marked by great news for our research community: Switzerland and the EU have signed the EU Programmes Agreement (EUPA). This means Switzerland is fully associated again with key European research and innovation programmes.

What’s included

With the signature of this new agreement, Switzerland is now officially part of:

  • Horizon Europe
  • Euratom
  • Digital Europe

More programmes are expected to follow soon:

  • ITER in 2026
  • Erasmus+ in 2027
  • EU4Health, once the new Swiss–EU health agreement comes into force

Thus, this renewed association reopens the door to full participation in Europe’s research funding landscape.

What this means for you

With the new agreement in place, researchers based in Switzerland can once again take full advantage of EU opportunities. Specifically, this means that you now can:

  • Sign grant agreements for positively evaluated proposals from the 2025 calls.
  • Coordinate Horizon Europe projects, starting with 2025 calls.
  • Apply again to mono-beneficiary schemes, including ERC, EIC and MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships.

If you’re involved in projects from 2024 or earlier, nothing changes: those remain under the previous arrangements.

For more background, you’ll find additional information on the SERI website and through Euresearch.

Info sessions

To help you navigate the renewed possibilities, Euresearch is offering two online information events:

These sessions will cover participation rules, funding options, and tips for preparing strong proposals. Attendance is free, but registration is required.

Looking ahead

This re-association opens up exciting possibilities for collaboration, funding, and new research directions. The Research Promotion Service and Euresearch Fribourg are here to support you as you make the most of these renewed opportunities.
