Institutional Review Board for research ethics (IRB)

Economic and social science research depends on the collection of data and the participation of people. Researchers in economics, communication science, and computer science are aware of the special nature of the relationship between researchers and the individuals participating in the research (participants). Researchers ensure that the dignity and integrity of the participants are not compromised by the research. They take appropriate measures to guarantee the safety and well-being of the participants and to anticipate, communicate appropriately, and minimize possible risks associated with participation.

The Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Fribourg has established an Institutional Review Board (IRB) to assess the ethical aspects of economic and social science research. The IRB’s role is to support researchers by reviewing research projects involving human participants from an ethical perspective. The researcher’s responsibility for the research project, particularly regarding legal questions related to the protection of personal data, remains unaffected.
