Open Calls
Looking for your next funding opportunity? Here’s a quick snapshot of the main calls coming up in the next months.
SNSF & Innosuisse
If you are planning a new research project, note that the SNSF Project Funding deadline (1 October 2025) is just around the corner. Similarly, for young researchers looking to establish independence, the Ambizione 2025 deadline (4 November 2025) is coming up soon. Looking a bit further ahead, the SNSF Starting Grants 2026 (deadline 5 May 2026) will give you the chance to lead your own team in Switzerland. You may also be interested in BRIDGE - Proof of Concept (deadline 1 December 2025), which supports the transfer of research results into practice.
EU
If you’re curious about European opportunities, there are several relevant open calls. The deadlines for the MSCA Staff Exchange 2025 (8 October 2025) and the ERC Starting Grant 2026 (14 October 2025) are both coming up soon. If you are aiming for an ambitious collaborative project, the ERC Synergy Grant 2026 (deadline 5 November 2025) supports teams of two to four researchers. And if your research touches on energy topics, don’t miss the Clean Energy Transition Partnership (CETP) call (deadline 9 October 2025).
Internal
Unifr also offers internal funding opportunities. The Centenary Research Fund has two rounds (1 October 2025 and 1 March 2026). The Research Pool (deadline 31 January 2026) supports projects related to the university. Doctoral candidates planning a research stay abroad may be interested in Doc.Mobility (deadline 1 March 2026).
Also, note the Human-IST & Swiss Post Initiative (deadline 17 October 2025). This scheme invites projects that address current business challenges of the Swiss Post.
If none of the above-mentioned calls apply to you, we encourage you to explore the Pivot-RP database for further research funding opportunities. And of course, you can always reach out to the SPR if you would like advice on finding the right call for your project.
