Dr. Werz started his law studies at the University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa), and obtained his lic. Iur. and doctorate from the University of Fribourg, as well as an LLM from the University of California, Berkeley. He was admitted to the Zurich bar.

After 2 years as in-house counsel in the international leasing industry, Dr. Werz worked for 32 years in the insurance industry, mainly liability insurance. He was a Member of Senior Management at Winterthur Group’s Head Office, supervising and supporting the underwriting activities of Winterthur’s foreign subsidiaries. He subsequently worked as a senior liability specialist for AXA Insurance Switzerland and then as a consultant for the AXA Group in Paris.

Dr. Werz has worked on legal issues in connection with underwriting and product development, as well as drafting underwriting guidelines and training underwriters. He is a former member of the Liability Commission of Swiss Insurers Association.
