Getting Connected
Upon official registration with the university students a Unifr, no earlier than one month before courses start, students will receive a communication with their unifr email address. Monitor the Junk/SPAM inbox to watch out for the communication – it is sent from no-reply@unifr.ch.
Note: the official Unifr mobile app is also available for download on mobile phones.
Once the unifr email address is received, the following important steps must be completed:
- Sign into unifr email and change password
- Create Switch-EDU Account
- Log into Moodle
- Register for courses
Students will receive a ‘How To Guide’ which has been created by the IBL to help students get started.
Students MUST activate the Unifr email account and log in to Moodle to access course materials and start studying
Unifr email
Upon logging in for the first time, the password must be changed. Students MUST ALWAYS check their Unifr email for communications from the IBL as all important information will be sent to this email address. See instructions for how to forward Unifr emails to personal email accounts (right click on page and select option to switch text to English).
The Unifr email address is valid only up to at least three months after the end of studies. Be sure to transfer all important information to a private email account beforehand - there will be no communication warning of the account deactivation.
Create Switch-EDU ID account
To access all other IBL and university systems, first a SWITCH edu-ID account must be created – this is the student's digital identity in Switzerland used by universities and enables a 2-step authorization for added security. This SWITCH edu-ID account is personal to the student and is thus independent of the university itself. See our ‘How To Guide’ further.
Log into Moodle
Moodle is our online teaching platform and is the go-to place for all course-related information. Students MUST log in only using the Unifr email as the firewall blocks communication with non-Unifr email addresses.
Students will receive an email from the IBL before the start of each semester with a link to Moodle and an enrolment key – this enrollment key grants access to the Moodle platform for the Semester.
For help getting connected
For any problems, first email iblstudentaffairs@unifr.ch.
Disclaimer: although Unifr servers are secured by antivirus software, it is each student’s responsibility to regularly update the antivirus protection on his/her personal computer or laptop, the University does not undertake any responsibility in case of any issue.
