Benedikt Pirker is a Titularprofessor at the Chair for European Law, International Law and Public Law of the University of Fribourg, and a Legal Advisor at the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. In the latter capacity, he advises on public international law (ius ad bellum, Security Council, Swiss neutrality) and is part of the Swiss delegation’s free movement of persons team during the ongoing negotiations between Switzerland and the European Union.
He has taught, among others, at the Universities of St. Gallen, Bern, and Ottawa, and has conducted research at the European University Institute, Hebrew University Jerusalem, the MPIL Heidelberg, and the University of Michigan. He was co-president of the International Language & Law Association (2021-2023) and is member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Language and Law and of the ‘Forum’ of European Papers, as well as an associate editor of the European Law Blog.
