Salary Rates for SNSF Budgeting
Learn how to budget for your staff salaries in SNSF proposals.
Amounts
When budgeting staff salaries in the SNSF Portal, make sure the following amounts are entered in the field "Yearly salary at 100% (CHF)".

| Senior researcher (5+ years after PhD) | 94'000 |
| Junior researcher (researcher with a bachelor/master degree) | 81'000 |
| Subassistant (bachelor or master student enrolled at Unifr) | 86'000* |
| Laboratory technician (chemistry, biology, physics) | 67'000 |
| Technical staff (outside chemistry, biology, or physics) | 70'000 |
* Subassistants may not work more than 11 hours per week (~25%). In the SNSF Portal, set the “Level of employment” to a maximum of 25%.
Notes
A social security contribution of 19% is automatically added to the amounts indicated above.
These amounts are for SNSF budget requests only. Actual salaries are set by the University of Fribourg Personnel Service based on the employee’s CV. Actual salaries will often be lower, as the requested amounts include a margin for inflation and regulatory changes.
For schemes submitted via mySNF, use these amounts as a reference. Note that these figures are before social contributions are added.
These rates apply to staff employed by the applicant. For schemes where applicants can request their own salary (e.g. SNSF Starting Grants), different rules apply. See the relevant scheme page for details.
These amounts apply only to staff employed at the University of Fribourg. Other universities may use different calculations.
