Ethics approvals
Research involving human participants and personal data falling outside the scope of the Human Research Act may require approval from an internal ethics committee, depending on your faculty or department.
The Department of Psychology, the Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences and the Department of Specialized Education have such an ethics committee.

Data protection
The collection and processing of personal data in research are subject to data protection regulations. The Data Protection Officers (DPOs) at the University of Fribourg support researchers working on projects involving the processing of personal data.
The internal ethics committees review certain aspects relating to the protection of personal data, as this is also part of the ethical assessment. However, their ethical approval does not constitute legal approval for the lawful processing of personal data, which is beyond their remit.
