General information

The master’s classes are designed to provide an in-depth theoretical understanding of the various fields. Emphasis is placed on the acquisition of methods, mastery of scientific concepts, their application in various fields of activity (hospitals, companies, schools, institutions, research) and the acquisition of practical skills.

This training provides graduates with an ideal entry point into the various professional fields of psychology, such as clinical and health psychology, personnel psychology, school psychology and ergonomics. It is also an ideal basis for working on research projects and/or preparing a doctoral thesis. Master's studies at Fribourg are distinguished by the individual supervision offered to students during their teaching and the preparation of their master’s dissertation. As the number of students is reasonable, there is generally no limit to the number of participants in teaching units. In addition, the wide range of external contributors from practice and research broadens and enriches the teaching offering.

Successful completion of this course entitles the student to the legally protected title of ‘psychologist’ under the Federal Law on Professions in the Field of Psychology (Lpsy). It may also give access to postgraduate training courses leading to a federal qualification in psychotherapy, clinical psychology and health psychology (see description of the module‘Psychopathology and clinical psychology’).

Start and duration of studies

Students can start this master’s programme in either the autumn or spring semester. However, we recommend starting in the autumn semester. It lasts at least four full-time semesters. The duration of studies is limited to three times the number of semesters required in the study plan, i.e. a maximum of 12 semesters. Starting this course in the spring semester can extend the duration of studies by at least one semester.

Teaching languages

Teaching units are offered in French, German or English. A course unit is assessed in the language in which it is taught. It is therefore advisable to have good written and oral comprehension and to be able to express oneself orally and in writing in this language for the purposes of the assessment of the teaching unit.
