An 8-week internet-based guided self-help program helps to reduce binge eating


Internet-based self-help programs increase accessibility of treatment in patients with binge eating disorder. A research group of the Department of Psychology has detected that even a short 8-week internet-based program can reduce binge eating behavior in adults. Patients with Binge Eating Disorder completed weekly sessions online and received a therapist’s feedback by email. After 8 weeks, weekly binges from 3.4 binges per week to 1.7 binges were reduced, patients felt less depressed and reported higher psychosocial functioning. Even after 6 months these positive results maintained.
