Chalki, 10th July 2018: The Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, presided over by His All-Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew met today in the Monastery of the Holy Trinity on the island of Chalki. The unanimous decisions will have consequences for Switzerland:
* Metropolitan Jeremia (Kaligiorgis) of Switzerland was elected Metropolitan of Ankara. This Seat has been vacant since 1922.
* Bishop Makarios (Pavlidis) received the title Metropolitan of Aneon (in Asia Minor).
* The new Metropolitan of Switzerland will be archimandrite Maximos (Pothos), up to now general vicar of the Swiss Metropolia. His ordination will take place on 22th July in the Phanar in Istanbul. His inthronisation is fixed for the 18th August in Chambésy.
