New Publication on «The Principle of Equality in Diverse States»
In federal or decentralised states, the principle of equality raises several complex issues.
When different levels of government autonomously adopt and apply their own sets of rules questions regarding unity, solidarity, and individual and institutional equality can arise. This new publication discusses a number of these challenges and the strategies different states employ to overcome them.
Published as part of Brill’s «Studies in Territorial and Cultural Diversity Governance» series, the book explores different approaches federal or decentralised states use to reconcile equality and autonomy. In case studies from four different continents, leading experts analyse the challenges of ensuring institutional, social and economic equality while respecting the competences of regions and the rights of groups. This book is for anyone interested in federalism, decentralisation and other forms of diverse states.
