National Federalism Conference
The idea of an annual National Federalism Conference dates back to the 2002 International Federalism Conference in St. Gallen (Switzerland). At the time, the Conference of Cantonal Governments (KdK) was preoccupied with what was needed to ensure that dialogue on fundamental federalism issues continued in Switzerland.

The first National Federalism Conference was held on 15 and 16 September 2005 in Fribourg. Organised by the federal administration, the Conference of Cantonal Governments (KdK) and the canton of Fribourg, together with the Swiss Association of Local Authorities and the Swiss Cities’ Association, the theme of the 2005 conference was cooperative federalism. The published conference proceedings were edited by the Institute of Federalism.
