    Description

    The topics of the course cover several different geophysical methods, including Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT, or geoelectrics), seismics, radar techniques (e.g. GPR) and electromagnetic induction methods and their application to different geographical, environmental, hydrological, geological, geomorphological and cryospheric problems.

    The course includes a short introduction into the theory of applied geophysical methods, the specifics of their handling and data acquisition, data processing and examples from different field studies. The course includes also an introduction into practical work in the field.

    The students may also choose an applied geophysical field work project within the course SGG.00443 (Project in Cryosphere and Geomorphology).

    Objectifs de formation Geophysical methods are increasingly applied in different disciplines of the Geosciences, as they are the only method available to obtain detailed information about the subsurface without disturbing it. The students of this course shall learn the basics of the most commonly applied methods, their application to geoscientific problems and the necessary data processing methods to analyse the measurements.
    At the end of the course the students shall be able to apply geophysical methods to individual problems, conduct the measurements and analyse the results.
