    Description

The war between Russia and Ukraine is the dominating news topic at the moment. Many political issues are conveyed to the citizens indirectly through the media, and the way in which they are portrayed has a demonstrable influence on public opinion. But what is 'public opinion' exactly - how is it formed and what is its power? Political opinion research is interested in how public opinion is shaped during times of crisis, how it is influenced, and what influence it has on political decision-making. The battle for public opinion is being fought from various sides, often with conflicting interests and different communication strategies. In this course, we will explore the role of the media and other actors in the battle for public opinion during the Russia-Ukraine war. In addition to covering media effects and public opinion research, we will also focus specifically on the role of emotions in political communication and on current research about misinformation and disinformation.
