Organisations have to recruit personnel who will produce their services or products. In this process, personality characteristics, abilities, and skills have to be matched to the respective job demands. Typically, this is done with selection tools developed by psychologists that allow to predict occupational outcomes. The goal of this class is to provide an overview over the most frequently used instruments (biographic, trait, simulation approaches) including their advantages and limitations. In addtion to personnel selection, the instruments are employed in the contexts of personnel development, vocational counseling, and prediction of academic achievement in higher education. Students will develop their knowledge regarding theoretical models, methods, and empirical evidence via reading and discussions, additionally, small-group exercises allow hands-on experiences.
