Metropolitan Jérémie and Metropolitan Makarios said goodbye to the orthodox community in Switzerland

On July 22 2018, day of the ordination of the new Metropolitan Maximos in the Phanar in Istanbul, Metropolitan Jeremiah (Kaligiorgis) and Metropolitan Makarios (Pavlidis) said farewell to the orthodox community in Switzerland during the Liturgy in the Orthodox Centre in Chambésy. Prof. Barbara Hallensleben, director of the Study Centre for Eastern Churches St. Nicholas and Prof. em. Guido Vergauwen, former director of the Institute for Ecumenical Studies and former rector of the University of Fribourg, participated in the ceremony and were welcomed as important partners of the Orthodox Centre and the Institute for higher studies in orthodox theology. Metropolitan Jeremiah expressed his gratitude to the community and encouraged the members of the parish to be faithful to the mission of the Church. Inspite of the period of holidays, a large number of believers had come to give thanks to their Metropolitan.

On July 10 2018, the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate entrusted Metropolitan Jeremiah with the ministry of a Metropolitan of Ancyra. There was no bishop in this historical diocese since 1922. Bishop Makarios, up to now vicar bishop to the diocese of Switzerland, monk of the Monastery of the Holy Transfiguration on Mount Athos, was elevated to the rank of Metropolitan of Aneon in Asia Minor.
