Workshop on Fiscal Federalism in Nairobi, Kenya
The Institute of Federalism continued its engagement with the Intergovernmental Fiscal Federalism Technical Committee (IGFFTC) of Somalia on the question of implementing a new fiscal framework for the country.
Dr. Rekha Oleschak-Pillai, Senior Research Fellow at the International Research and Consulting Centre was in Nairobi, Kenya in early November 2024 to discuss the issues related to constitutional and legal implications of the decisions taken by the National Consultative Council on fiscal federalism and on the way forward with the policy brief that has been developed over the last few months and which should form the basis for wider discussions on fiscal federalism in the near future.
The workshop included sessions to discuss the policy brief, during which all members of the IGFFTC were able to provide feedback, discuss the current state of affairs and make suggestions for the finalisation of the policy brief. In addition, the workshop also included a session on constitutionalism and a trust/peace-building exercise.
The project “Power-sharing and Fiscal Federalism in Somalia” is jointly implemented with the World Bank in Somalia and funded by the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC).
