Closure and relocation of the BLE

In September 2026, the new building of the Cantonal and University Library will open at Rue Saint-Michel 6. From then on, you will also find the BLE's collections and librarians there. After many years at the University of Fribourg, we are moving and will become part of a large new open-access area for languages and literature with almost 70,000 volumes in a uniform classification system.

Please note the following dates:

• 05.2026 – The BLE seminar equipment will be removed on this date. From then on, you will find the corresponding books back on the shelves in the open access area or in their original library.
• 06.2026 – If you have reserved a locker, please empty it and return the key to us.
• 06.2026 – Definitive closure of the library. Please return any borrowed books by this date. If you still have documents to return during the closure period, you can hand them in at the Faculty of Law Library (BFD) (Miséricorde 04, Avenue de l'Europe 20, basement).
• 01.09.2026 – Opening of the renovated and expanded BCU/KUB headquarters at Rue de Saint-Michel 6. You will find the language and literature collections on the first and second floors of the building.
