About us
The Library of Foreign Languages and Multilingualism (BLE) offers you a wide selection of more than 30,000 books, periodicals and audio-visual materials in the fields of linguistics, multilingualism research and second language learning and teaching.
The BLE is part of both the Department of Multilingualism and Foreign Language Education and the Language Centre of the University of Fribourg/Freiburg. The library also houses the Self-Access Centre for Language Learning and the Research Centre on Multilingualism’s Centre of documentation.
Library stocks comprise monographs, periodicals, audio CDs and DVDs from the following areas of interest:
- second language learning and teaching (especially German, French, English, and Italian)
- evaluation and testing
- learner autonomy
- multilingualism
- multilingual education
- language policy
- sociolinguistics
- cognitive linguistics
- psycholinguistics

Library stocks: around 35,000 media, including more than 1,000 CD-ROMs, 1,000 video cassettes, 5,000 audio cassettes, 100 DVDs, and 1,000 audio CDs.
The Self-Access Centre’s stocks comprise materials for autonomous language learning, such as audio CDs, DVDs and CD-ROMs, in more than 80 languages. This includes materials in the field of language for specific purposes, textbooks for autonomous learning, and more.
