Sommerschulen

INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL IN SOCIAL ANTHROPOLOGY initiated, coordinated, and organized since 2012 by Dr. Andrea Boscoboinik (UniFR) and Dr. Melinda Dincă (UVT) in the frame of the Inter-University Convention 80099/10.07.2000 between Fribourg University (UniFR) and the West University of Timișoara (UVT).

2026 – 12th edition – Urban Transformations and Social Concerns
Thirty-four students from five universities (the University of Fribourg, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, the University of Messina, the University of Beira Interior, and the West University of Timișoara) took part in this year's Summer School in Timișoara.
Over the course of one week, students worked in international teams and explored the city through anthropological approaches to urban life. Guided by six professors, they engaged with ethnographic methods and explored the city through walking, observation, multisensory research, and other forms of urban fieldwork.
The Summer School offered students an opportunity to experience the city as a fieldsite: to observe its everyday rhythms, explore its spaces, and reflect on the social and urban concerns that shape life in Timișoara. 6-10 July 2026.

2025 – 11th Edition – Social Identity Dynamics in Multicultural European Cities.

Twenty-four students from the University of Fribourg and seven other universities took part in this Summer School in Timișoara. They were guided by eight professors from the West University of Timișoara, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, and the University of Fribourg. Over the course of one week, students became familiar with conducting ethnographic research in an urban setting by working in international teams. 23-27 June 2025.
