Jean-Louis Berger

Jean-Louis Berger grew up in the canton of Geneva, where he obtained a commercial matura and then studied education sciences at the University of Geneva, graduating with a licentiate in 2003. After working professionally and for associations with children and adults with disabilities, he completed a doctoral thesis in education sciences in 2008. Between 2008 and 2009, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Combined Program in Education and Psychology, University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. From 2009 to 2020, he was a professor, co-director of the “Learning and Support Processes” research area and area coordinator within the Master of Science in Vocational Education and Training at the Swiss Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (Swiss Federal University for Vocational Education and Training SFUVET). Between 2018 and 2021, he held the position of European editor for the journal Mesure et évaluation en éducation. Since August 2020, he has been a full professor at the Faculty of Humanities and, since 2025, at the new Faculty of Education. His research lies at the intersection of education and psychology. More specifically, his research focuses on self-regulated learning, learning strategies, motivation, and the teaching practices that influence these different aspects.
