Introduction:
The GAS Year 2, Part 2 component of the Advanced English Programme will focus on pronunciation – “All those aspects of speech which make for an easily intelligible flow of speech…” (Linda Grant). There are two options (projects):
1) Self-analysis of pronunciation and independent correction of errors:
This option is intended for students who identify a need to improve their own pronunciation.
2) Analysis of another individual’s pronunciation followed by guided instruction:
This option is intended for students who make minimal to no errors in the pronunciation of English
Objectifs de formation Outcomes:
- Fine tune awareness of the required stress, rhythm and intonation in English in order to effectively communicate meaning
- Develop an ability to identify and understand pronunciation errors, and distinguish between more important and less important errors
- Develop an awareness of how global features (i.e. speech rate, voice quality) and paralinguistic features (i.e. gestures) affect pronunciation
- Find, develop and/or employ strategies for improving pronunciation (with self or to coach another person)
- Gain knowledge and practice in teaching correct pronunciation
- Become familiar with resources targeting pronunciation
