This Proseminar will focus on reading the Old English epic par excellence, Beowulf, in light of its Old Norse analogues, such as the Saga of Hrolf Kraki and other stories about dragons, monsters, and tribal feuds written in Old Icelandic. It will also introduce students to the basics of Old Norse/Old Icelandic.
The Proseminar is aimed at second and third-year students who already have a certain knowledge of Old English language and literature.
