University scientists can access the high-performance cluster managed by the DIT
Currently at University of Fribourg we have two CPU clusters of more than 4500 CPUs and a GPU cluster with 512 CPUs and 32 RTX 4090 GPUs.
The cluster is accessible for personnel and scientific work.
Starting 2026, the University Fribourg is introducing a transparent pricing model for usage of compute resources at UniFR. The aim is to make fair usage of HPC, sustainability and transparency.
Cost is based on Operational Expenditure (OpEx) and all operational and network costs (non-compute hardware, licenses, staff, etc.) are covered by DIT, 100% of the billed income is calculated for CPU usage, RAM and storage and electricity usage.
Price of each CPU includes 6GB RAM and 1TB of main storage per user with 30 days backup and 512GB of flash storage
Pricing structure pay-as-you-go pricing offers three options:
- 16 cpus are free of charge for period of 4-6 months per user or 40 cpus max for research group for 6 months.
- 80 CHF per 1 cpu per year on number of requested cpus reservation.
- For shorted usage price is calculated for effective usage per hour: 0.016 CHF per real cpu (no hyperthreading) per hour including 6GB RAM per cpu.
