Maude Ouellette-Dubé

Biography

I am a senior researcher at the Environmental Sciences and Humanities Institute. Since January 2025, I am the scientific coordinator of the continuing education program CAS “Ethical Decision-Making for Professionals.” I teach in applied ethics (animal ethics, environmental ethics, sustainability ethics and veterinary ethics).

My research lies at the intersection of animal ethics, care ethics, and moral psychology. I have been interested in the various aspects of ethics for many years. After writing an MA thesis in animal ethics at the University of Geneva, I obtained a doctorate in moral philosophy at the University of Fribourg in 2022. I then completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the didactics of ethics at the Haute école pédagogique Vaud. My current research focuses on issues of animal ethics (equine ethics, euthanasia decision-making, caring relations between humans and animals (friendship, power asymmetry, work, etc.)). In June 2025, my co-author Friederike Zenker and I received The Karen Dalke Early Career Prize for Excellence in Equine Research at the Equine Cultures in Transition Conference held at Manchester Metropolitan University.
