Devhuti Shaw is a Ph.D. candidate in Environmental Humanities whose interdisciplinary doctoral research examines how legal systems conceptualize and represent nature, with particular attention to legal personhood and the governance of natural resources. Her broader research interests lie at the intersection of law, legal anthropology, history, and public policy.

She holds an M.A. in South Asian Studies from the University of Heidelberg and a B.A., LL.B. from the National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), Kolkata. Her work to date has engaged with juristic personhood, transculturality, Hindu law and Dharma Shastra, constitutional law, international law, intellectual property law, and the intersections of law and society.

She has previously worked as a student researcher at the Max Planck Foundation for International Peace and the Rule of Law and has professional experience in litigation and legal practice in India. Her multidisciplinary training enables her to explore questions of law, culture, identity, justice, representation, and human–nature relationships from both legal and anthropological perspectives.
