The IBL at the Vis Moot in Vienna

We are proud to see students from the Institute for International Business Law (IBL), currently enrolled in the LL.M. in International Contracts and Arbitration, actively participating in the 33rd Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna — this time serving as arbitrators.

Over the past days, Ana Marakvelidze, Danielle Magalhães, and Harun Abaz have joined arbitral panels, contributing to one of the most prestigious moot court competitions in international arbitration. Their role reflects not only academic excellence, but also the trust placed in them within an international professional setting.

The Vis Moot brings together participants from more than 90 countries, creating a truly global environment — one that closely mirrors the diversity of the IBL community. With students from across jurisdictions and legal traditions, the IBL fosters a learning environment shaped by multiple perspectives, strengthening both academic development and international engagement.

This year’s scale is once again impressive: 390 teams, more than 2,500 students, and over 1,000 arbitrators. Within this context, our students’ contribution stands out as both meaningful and impactful.

Beyond their hearing duties, our students engaged in a rich program of events, including the presentation of the Austrian Yearbook of International Arbitration and the Arbitrator Moot Camp, alongside a series of academic and practice-oriented panels. These included discussions on evolving procedural questions and emerging developments in international arbitration, offering valuable insights well beyond the classroom.

The IBL is also present at the Moot through a dedicated information table, led by Nida Tugba, our IBL ambassador for Türkiye, the Middle East, and Europe. This provides an opportunity for prospective students and participants to engage directly with our program and international community.

It is a pleasure to see our students so actively engaged in such a dynamic and demanding environment — confidently contributing, connecting, and representing the global spirit of the IBL.
